Maritza est une auteure-compositrice-interprète reconnue pour la profondeur de ses chansons et sa capacité à émouvoir. Après deux albums en français, elle lançait, "¿Quién eres ?" en 2022, son premier album en espagnol. Il s'agit d'un projet artistique né d'un processus de réappropriation de soi. Originaire de la République dominicaine, Maritza renoue ainsi avec sa langue maternelle, qu'elle a rapidement perdue après avoir été adoptée très jeune par un couple de Québécois francophones. Dans la lignée de Chavela Vargas, Lhasa de Sela, Natalia Lafourcade et Silvana Estrada, Maritza propose des chansons folk aux influences latines, des sonorités chaudes et intemporelles, soutenues par des orchestrations très organiques où les cordes occupent une place centrale. 

 

La rupture avec sa famille biologique, son déracinement, son adoption et un questionnement identitaire complexe ont nourri des démons intérieurs qui ont longtemps été un frein à sa réussite. "¿Quién eres ?" est un album qui lui a permis de sublimer son histoire et d'en faire un puissant moteur créatif. C’est un album rempli de lumière et d’espoir dans lequel elle entraîne les auditeurs sur un chemin cathartique, transformant la douleur en poésie et l'incertitude en art. À l’été 2022, elle a été invitée à présenter l’album lors du Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, un premier passage  à ce prestigieux évènement.

 

Sur scène, Maritza possède une présence magnétique, faite de grâce, de force et de vulnérabilité. Elle crée une réelle connexion avec son public et répand une bonne dose d’amour, ce qui rend chacun de ses concerts uniques.

Voilà maintenant 10 ans que l’artiste s’est taillée une place dans le milieu musical. Après la sortie de son premier EP en 2012, elle s’est entre autres retrouvée à Vue sur la Relève, en demi-finale aux Francouvertes de 2014, au Festival en chanson de Petite-Vallée et sur la scène des FrancoFolies. Dans son sillon, elle récolte moult prix et commentaires élogieux, mais surtout, fait de riches rencontres humaines qui l’inspireront dans sa démarche artistique. En 2016, elle présente "Libérons-nous", un album qui contient entre autres  "Le diable à mes trousses" et "Avant", deux chansons qui se sont retrouvées au #1 du palmarès de SiriusXM Franco.

 

Sorti au printemps 2023, son single  "Je ne sais plus rien" tourne sur la chaîne Racines de SiriuxSM Franco et figure sur la compilation « Best of World Music 2024 » de de Putumayo World Music. La reprise de la chanson "Orphan Girl" de Gillian Welch est sa dernière sortie (novembre 2024). Un nouvel album est prévu pour le printemps 2025.

 

Elle a chanté sur plusieurs albums, notamment ceux de Paul Cargnello, Amylie et de l'artiste international Kimi Djabaté.

 

Toujours en quête d'expériences créatives et musicales, Maritza est également membre du groupe Lisbonne Télégramme.​

Maritza is a renowned singer-songwriter known for the depth of her songs and her ability to move people. In 2022, she released "¿Quién eres?" her first album in Spanish. It is an artistic project born out of a process of self-reappropriation. Originally from the Dominican Republic, Maritza reconnects with her native language, which she quickly lost after being adopted at a young age by a French-speaking Quebecois couple. In the vein of Lhasa, Natalia Lafourcade, and Silvana Estrada, Maritza offers folk songs with Latin influences, warm and timeless sounds, supported by very organic orchestrations where strings play a central role.

"¿Quién eres?" is an album that allowed her to elevate her story and turn it into a powerful creative engine. It is an album filled with light and hope, in which she takes listeners on a cathartic journey, transforming pain into poetry and uncertainty into art. In the summer of 2022, she was invited to present the album at the Montreal International Jazz Festival, marking her first appearance at this prestigious event.

 

On stage, Maritza possesses a magnetic presence, characterized by grace, strength, and vulnerability. She creates a genuine connection with her audience and spreads a good dose of love, making each of her concerts unique.

It has been 10 years since the artist made her mark in the music scene. After the release of her first EP in 2012, she found herself at events such as "Vue sur la Relève," in the semi-finals of the Francouvertes in 2014, and at the Festival en chanson de Petite-Vallée and the FrancoFolies. In her wake, she has received numerous awards and praise, but above all, she has made rich human encounters that inspire her artistic approach. In 2016, she released "Libérons-nous," an album that includes, among others, "Le diable à mes trousses" and "Avant," two songs that reached #1 on the SiriusXM Franco chart.

Released in spring 2023, his single "J e ne sais plus rien" features in Putumayo World Music's “Best of World Music 2024” playlist. The cover of the song "Orphan Girl" by Gillian Welch is her latest release (November 2024). A new album is scheduled for spring 2025.
